Largest serving of fish and chips: world record set by Resorts World Birmingham (VIDEO)
Birmingham, UK -- The world's largest serving of fish and chips was served up by Resorts World Birmingham; the monstrous version of the traditional British dish tipped the scales at 54.99kg, beating the previous world record of 47.75kg in 2012, according to the World Record Academy. A whopping 27.83kg halibut, caught in the waters off Norway, was fried in nine pints of batter and two pints of soda.
The GUINNESS WORLD RECORD (TM) for the largest serving of fish and chips is 54.99 kg (121 lb 3oz) and was made by Resorts World Birmingham (UK), in Birmingham, UK, on 9 February 2018.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS (TM) also recognized the world record for the largest fish finger; it weighed 136 kg (299 lb 13 oz) and was made by Michael Gorich (Germany) in Bremerhaven, Germany, on 22 January 2009. The fish finger measured 2 m (6 ft 6 in) long, 50 cm (1 ft 7 in) wide and 14.5 cm (5.7 in) high.
The previous Guinness world record, set in 2012 by Fish and Chips LTD in London, featured 42 pounds and 1 ounce of battered fish after frying as well as 63 pounds and 3 ounces of French fries.
Head chef Cristian Genete said: "It was quite a challenge to cook such a large fish and I had another team cooking the accompanying chips. Although the whole team was nervous, it was also great fun."
The Robata attempt began at 4pm when a halibut fillet from a 1085lb (492kg) fish weighed 27.83kg uncooked and the raw chips 54.9kg. That meant the total uncooked weight of the fish and chips at Robata was 82.73kg compared with 64.89kg when the current record was set six years ago.
